AKADEMIROMMET: Poached Egg People Poems, Silje Iversen Kristiansen

Welcome to the opening of AKADEMIROMMET: Poached Egg People Poems by Silje Iversen Kristiansen

… The secret of the human condition is that there is no equilibrium between us and the surrounding forces of nature, which infinitely exceed us when in inaction; there is only equilibrium in action by which we recreate our own life through work. Our greatness is always to recreate life, to recreate what is given to us, to fashion that very thing which one undergoes. Through work one produces one’s own natural existence. …
– after Simone Weil’s “Gravity and Grace” (1953).

Silje Iversen Kristiansen (b. 1994) is a student at the Academy of Fine Arts. During summer, she’s a municipality consultant, working in the payroll department. Since August, Silje has been thinking about stories told by her colleagues at work, and the poetic way that they were told. Simultaneously she tried to settle in her new studio.

Akademirommet is open to the public, located at Kunstnernes Hus and run by the Academy of Fine Art Oslo. Devoted to art Akademirommet seeks to explore exhibiting as a dynamic arrangement and a tool for thinking and communicating. Situated in a former studio that has been used by the Academy as professor studio and classroom from the 1930s through to the 90s, Akademirommet is a place for thought and practice.

Akademirommet is organized by Rike Frank, Dora García, Mike Sperlinger and Sofie Amalie Andersen.
